The Support Program for Urban Democratic Governance and Peacebuilding in Libya and Tunisia addresses the needs of local authorities and organizations of civil society, and helps the political transition and decentralization process triggered by the Revolutions of 2011 in Tunisia and Libya.
This program started in Tunisia with the implementation of a pilot phase. It initiated activities to support municipalities and funded pilot projects dedicated to the principles of urban democratic governance. It is developed into five principle components :
- Supporting the decentralization process launched by the national structures in both countries
- Capacity building of communes in the field of local governance
- Capacity building of the local network of associations and supporting the role of youth and women
- Supporting social peace
- Reinforcing the Tunisian-Libyan cross-border cooperation.
This program is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
