On December 8, 2018, on the sidelines of its General Assembly, which will take place in Mahdia, the National Federation of Tunisian Cities (FNVT) will announce the Official launch of the Municipal Empowerment Program (CEP) in partnership with the International Development Center for Innovative Local Governance (CILG-VNG International).
Held after the first free municipal elections in Tunisia, this General Assembly will be an opportunity for local elected officials to discuss the means to be deployed in order to develop the Federation’s position to better take into account the needs of municipalities.
In this context, the municipalities will have the opportunity to discover the CEP. This Empowerment Program of the Communes, supported by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the FNVT with the support of CILG-VNG International, aims at empowering municipalities in Tunisia by building the capacities of the National Federation of Tunisian Cities (FNVT) in terms of technical assistance to municipalities, pooling of knowledge and generation of tools and innovative approaches to local governance.
In order to foster a dynamic interaction between municipalities, the CEP plans to develop thematic networks based on the key areas of the projects to be set up. These include developing and implementing innovative municipal management applications, strengthening the role of the federation in representing the interests of municipalities in the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP) on the issue of decentralization, creating an informative and consultative platform and integrating the participative approach in the management of local affairs.
